Best defender? Empty Best defender?

Who do you think is the best defender? My favourite defender is Patrick Viera from France. These days defenders don't get much glory, but they are vital cogs in any teams machine. Without them, they would not be able to stop the torrent of goals from the opposing teams strikers.
